New Beginnings!

Well, it's a new year which means change is in the air! It saddens me to say goodbye to my little group but also fills me with pride as a see them moving up to Kindergarten. With a new year comes a new challenge for me.  This year I will be teaching a group of 3rd/4th graders! Since I love blogging and documenting my classes' educational adventures it was my hope to continue doing just that. Check it out and subscribe to  Teach Them To Fly II.

Don't worry, I plan to leave this blog active so please feel free to check out past posts for some ideas for your classroom.  Former parents, take a walk down memory lane!

Wishing You All the Best,

Happy Birthday Miss Sarah

It's Miss Sarah's Birthday! Our helper and Teacher Assistant for the summer program is having a birthday! To celebrate we got to make cupcakes. We practiced our measuring skills, following directions (recipe), fine motor strength and control, and sequencing skills. And most importantly, we had fun!

Oh The Places We Will Go!

Today we made a few discoveries on the playground. We found a friendly grasshopper! We love the outdoors!

Later we read the classic "Oh the Places You Will Go" and talked about what we would like to be when we grow up. It's a lot of fun to think about all of the possibilities. Later we took a trip around the world with just a balloon. Check it out!

Okay, so it wasn't an actual trip around the world... but we had some fun pretending!

Dancing Colors

Today we made colors dance! We did a fun science experiment with milk, food coloring, and dawn soap that brought our colors to life. The activity was not only fun but also reinforced our counting skills, color identification skills, ability to make predictions, and follow directions.

We used whole milk, neon (because nothing is better than some neon!) food coloring, dawn soap, and q-tips. We filled our pie plate with milk and food coloring and then dipped our Dawn soap covered q-tip into the milk and watched the colors dance. We had the opportunity to also make prints from our designs and do our own personal swirl in muffin wrappers. Check it out!

It's gets a little messy, but we like that!

Our own personal attempts!
